As noted the other day, when a customer disputes a transaction with the bank I work for, they’re required to send us a letter explaining why. As also noted, our customers aren’t the brightest bulbs on the tree. These are verbatim quotes from customer letters:
“Verna’s card was debited by scams”
“I don’t authorize all this Transactions and I never Been in Michigan. Below is my signature.”
“Meiyer electronically took it out of my account electronically.”
“Came in to get statement for an NS charge. They did print out & realized comcast on there.”
“Thank you for your time and I look forward from hearing from you.”
“These companies are withdrawling the amove amounts out of my chacking accounts. I don’t know the company or what they are charging me for. I have tryed to contact them and have been unable to. I believe the got my card no# from —>”
“These transaction where not authorised by me or was notified of this action”
“This item was unauthorized transaction and was not authorized.”
“Recently my home computer received a virus, and had scanned my computer for information. It was later that the above transactions where processed on my account. As soon as the charges were noted TCF was contacted to unauthorized those transactions and cancel my current card to prevent further flagellant charges to my account.”
“I don’t know about who is This is limit Not know why no Reason.”
“Tommie Mitchell I call you’ll several time to get you all to stop taking out for this insurance, cause I know longer want it.”
“Today morning I had noticed a transaction that I had not authorized through my account.”
“I CHECKED MY ACCOUNT AND I ONLY HAD $3 SO I FOUND OUT THAT SOMEONE HAD TAKEN MONEY OUT”
“I did not authorize First Option to withdraw any money out of my account. I do not no how they retrieve my account no, and I would like for them to return my money and stop going in my account. I do not have money to give away like that, another thing I don’t know who or what they are. Please put my money back in my account, plus my the fees they are charging me.”
“This past weekend my card was used not under my use.”
“Due to this manner I did recieve a courtesy of $70.00 towards my account. There is another courtesy fee I’m requiring about towards my account.”
“I have never been to Texas in the amount of 2 $250 transactions.”
“I did not authorize this transaction please so far I own to you the bank.”

“My reason disputing this bill due to the fact that I did not authorize them to take it out in my account.”
“I did not authorize [this transaction]. I don’t know why it happened and I don’t care.”
“We have not even heard of this company and are unable to find any company listed Because of this we are filing an irregulations eclaim.”
“On Thursday 13 2008 .. I am writing about the charge on 12/02/08 in the amount of 12/02/08.”
“I went to Make a despoitel and the AtM arround 2 the AtM Recked the card. I cut it up put in the garbage”

We’ve also established that in order to have your check card fraud claim resolved, you must write a letter to my bank with your name, account information, transactions your disputing, and an explanation for why you’re disputing them. We’ve also established that those letters can be really funny. [...]
